I saw this poll yesterday and thought, hey, I like polls. So I didn’t read the whole post (sorry, Amy) until today while simultaneously answering the questions for myself. Here’s what I got.
List 10 random musical artists you like in no specific order. Warning: Do not read the questions below before listing your favorite artists.
This is harder than I thought, THERE ARE TOO MANY FOR ME TO CHOOSE!
3. die ärzte
5. Amy MacDonald
6. Jason Mraz
7. The Beatles
9. Konstantin Wecker
10. Tim Bendzko
What’s the first song you ever heard by #6 (Jason Mraz)?
Probably I’m Yours, a few years back when it was really popular? It’s one of my
What’s your favorite song by #8 (Adele)?
“Hometown Glory”. There are more obvious choices, “Rolling in the Deep”, “Someone Like You” or “Chasing Pavements” are amazing, but Hometown has this je ne sais quoi that I really, really like.
What are your favorite lyrics by #5 (Amy MacDonald)?
“What happened to achieving? What happened to believing in yourself? Why listen to the musings of someone, somebody else? I’m sorry I don’t see and I can’t quite believe it anymore. What happened to believing that beauty’s in the eye of the beholder?”
What song by #3 (die ärzte) makes you the happiest?
That’s hard! “Lasse redn” maybe? “Schlaflied”? “Monsterparty”? “Schrei nach Liebe”? I refuse to answer.
When did you first get into #2 (Milow)?
The year of my high school graduation, 2009, when “Ayo Technology” came out. It really fascinated- still fascinates- me, how a happy go lucky guitar-pop melody can make the dirtiest lyrics sound innocent. I could still kick myself that I missed the concert I was supposed to go to due to a foot injury with very, very bad timing.
How did you get into #3 (die ärzte)?
No idea. Really, no idea. It was a phase that people around me went through, but I really don’t know what exactly got me started.
What is your favorite song by #4 (F.R.)?
„Bändige Beats“. And „FrRrRrRr“.
Have you seen #9 (Konstantin Wecker) live? How many times?
Haha. No. I have a live album, though, and I’ve seen a documentary about his last tour.
Favorite album by #7 (The Beatles)?
This is gonna sound crazy, but I won’t even try to pick a favorite. So I’m going with „Beatles go Classic“. One of my parents’ favorite Sunday-morning-breakfast-albums.
What’s your favorite song by #1 (Queen)?
It’s a three way tie and I’m just gonna stop apologizing for not directly answering the questions. “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “The Show Must Go On” and “No-One But You”.
How did you become a fan of #10 (Tim Bendzko)?
I went to a concert with my roomie last year and when we got home, we decided that we had to go to one again as soon as possible. So we looked through who was gonna play in our town next, found Tim and bought tickets that night. Then we got the album and LOVED it. The concert was amazing too and got me into #4.
How long have you known #9 (Konstantin Wecker)?
“Sage nein!” was my favorite song around the time I turned 6. I only had a vague idea about how political it was, but it had this line “ob du sechs bist oder 100” – “no matter if you are six or 100 years old”. I remember being so happy when I finally turned 6 and he was talking to me, and only me!
Top 5 by #5 (Amy MacDonald)?
-This Pretty Face
-What Happiness Means to Me
-This Is the Life
Have you ever met #4 (F.R.)?
I stood about 10 feet from the stage when he opened for #10, does that count?
What’s your favorite album by #1 (Queen)?
“Live Magic”. First one I heard, and I still love it dearly. There is no better thing to cheer me up that “oh-dee-dee-dee-dee-eh-oh”-ing with Freddie.
Favorite lyric by #7 (The Beatles)?
“There’s nothing you can see that isn’t shown, nowhere you can see that isn’t shown, nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be, it’s easy.”
What’s #2’s (Milow) best song?
Aside from the already mentioned “Ayo Technology”, “Rambo”
How many times have you seen #2 (Milow) live?
I HAVEN’T! I freaking twisted my freaking ankle the freaking night before. Valentine’s Day 2010 will always be a black day for me.
Which one of these have you known the longest?
Either #9 or #1 or maybe #7. Shout out to my parents for raising me on great music. Thanks, guys.
Favorite song by #9 (Konstantin Wecker)?
Three way tie again and I won’t apologize. “Sage nein”, “Questo Nuova Realta” and “Ich singe, weil ich ein Lied hab”.
